Content Designer - Unannounced MMO

  • First level designer/world builder hired on the team, designing initial layouts
  • Designed and documented zones and dungeons
  • Used HeroEngine based proprietary tools to block-out and implement designs
  • Worked closely with writers to design and implement gameplay, quests, and encounters
  • Collaborated with artists on the zones and dungeons I designed to ensure all beautification matched the central vision of the world and supported the designs I implemented
  • Provided feature support, testing, and bug-fixing of all implemented content

 

Quake 4 Fortress

Engine: Quake 4 (Multiplayer Mod)

Responsibilities: Project Lead / Level Designer

In charge of the projects vision, direction and management of the team, recruiting talent, creating balanced classes and gameplay, designing levels, creating layouts and visuals, and managing the website and public relations.

Description: Quake 4 Fortress is a Team Fortress based mod for Quake 4 that I developed before coming to The Guildhall.  In Q4F, players choose to play one of 9 classes, from Medic to Soldier to Engineer, in a unique style of online team warfare.  Each class possesses special weapons, items, and abilities, as teams compete in online Capture the Flag battles.

Development Time: ~8 months

The Ghastleybriar Zoo Incident

Engine: Half-Life 2 (Single Player Mod)

Responsibilities: Lead Level Designer

In charge of the enviroments vision, direction and management of the Level Design team, creating balanced gameplay, designing levels, creating stunning visuals and detail.

Description: The Ghastleybriar Zoo Incident is a action/platformer game currently in development for Half-Life 2. The player takes on the role of Edward Mump, a lonely Ghastleybriar Zookeeper, who attempts to recapture all the escaped animals in the Zoo. Players battle it out against unique creatures and varieties of environmental puzzles in this stylistic, Edward Gorey like, game.

Development Time: 6 months

Haunted Isles

Engine: The Elder Scrolls: Oblivion (Single Player Mod)

Responsibilities: Game Designer / World Builder

In charge of the projects vision and story, designing the world, building the world, creating terrain and visuals, and balancing gameplay.

Description: Haunted Isles was a two man project that I was apart of with fellow designer.  I designed the module, story, and gameplay and created the world and all visuals, while my teammate did all the scripting and made everything work in the module.  Haunted Isles takes place on the island of Isild.  The island has been over thrown by an evil presence and its the players job to vanquish the evil and save the day.

Development Time: 1 month

Insurrection

Engine: Unreal Tournament 2004 (Multiplayer Mod)

Responsibilities: Level Designer

In charge of designing levels, constructing the world, building terrain and visuals, creating low poly environment models, and balancing gameplay.

Description: Insurrection, a 15 person project by Team Cactus, is a team based multiplayer mod for Unreal Tournament 2004.  Insurrection features Assault-style objectives with six unique classes, one team defending and another attacking, in a post-apocalyptic setting.

Development Time: 3 months
