Ohio Teaching Family Association Swanton, OH 2002-2007
Foster Care Teaching Parent
- Directed a group home program for seriously disturbed teens and supervised a team of teaching assistants. Screened referrals and selected youth for participation in the treatment, met with agency personnel, went to hearings and case reviews, worked with schools and youth’s parents.
- Cared for registered sex offenders, emotionally disturbed, psychotic, handicapped, and delinquent youth teaching academic skills, interpersonal social skills, and vocational skills such as welding, automotive and motorcycle mechanics, carpentry, drywall, and woodworking.
- Worked with and supervised youth during Habitat for Humanity projects and other community volunteer work.
- Created and implemented motivation systems and cognitive behavioral therapy programs for troubled youth to decrease aversive behavior and teach alternative positive behavior.
- Shaped behavior using cognitive behavioral psychology techniques; conditioning, reinforcement, extinction, and schedules of reinforcement.
