Run (Unreal Tournament 3 Team Project)

Run is an Unreal Tournament 3 Team multiplayer project.

The premise is simple.  Without warning, a ravenous, malevolent alien force has infiltrated a peaceful research vessel.  In the interest of protecting sensitive scientific data, the ship's automatic self-destruct sequence has been activated leaving very little time for escape.  Only one escape pod remains, and this escape pod can only support one life-form for any period of time in which rescue would be likely.  You remain amongst a handful of remaining crew-members, and it's every man for themselves.

The objective is to make it to be the first to make it to the remaining escape pod, which will guaruntee your survival.  You must use any means necessary to hinder your feelow comrades in the interest of self-preservation.  In a nutshell, Run is a first-person parkour-style racing game with interactive environmental elements and numerous gadgets to aid in the hinderence of your former comrades.

This project was completed over a period of eight weeks.

Freeze Tag (Unreal Tournament 3 Team Project)

Freeze Tag is an Unreal Tournament 3 team project.

Two teams face each other in a deathmatch-style fashion armed with nothing but a "Freeze Rifle" (a modified sniper rifle).  Upon being hit by a bullet from a Freeze Rifle, the player is frozen in place and can no longer move or use the gun scope; however, the player can still pivot and fire.  Thus, the player is functionally turned into a stationary "freeze turret".  If a frozen player is touched by a member of their own team, they un-freeze and return to a fully-functional state.  The first team to freeze every player on the opposite team wins the match.

I designed, decorated and lit the map displayed in this gallery.  The entire project cycle took place over a period of two weeks.

Cosmonuts (2D TorqueX Team Game Project)

Cosmonuts is a team 2D game project built in TorqueX .

The year is 1959. For the past five years the U.S.S.R. has been shooting a wide range of adorable creatures into space as a means to test their newly developed rocket technology. However, it has recently gotten to the point at which the Soviet scientists can no longer benefit from this type of experiment; unless, of course, their goal is to gauge the effects of zero-gravity on cruelty. The Soviets know that they need to launch a manned mission if they wish to expand their knowledge of the cosmos and be the first to set foot on the Earth’s celestial neighbors – a feat that would undoubtedly establish the U.S.S.R. as the most technologically superior nation on the planet. Unfortunately for the Soviet space program, their reputation precedes them. With only about a 10% chance that their rockets won’t fall right out of the sky, volunteers for such a mission are nowhere to be found.

As it becomes more and more apparent that knowledge and exploration of the solar system is a means to the Soviet’s political end, the Kremlin decides to take matters into their own hands. They target a small Siberian potato farming community with a long and proud tradition of lethargic mediocrity, and proceed to kidnap them with the intention of blasting them haphazardly into space under the guise of a shoddy operation known as the Communist Cosmonaut Correspondence Program (CCCP).

You, Flipski, are among these chosen few. Flipski and his comrades embark on an epic journey of espionage, space travel, and spastic debauchery in this tongue-in-cheek retro space adventure.

Cosmonuts Galaxy (2D Team Game Project)

Cosmonuts Galaxy is a survival-shooter mini-game created in conjunction with Cosmonuts the platformer.

This game was built entirely from scratch in C++.  The gameplay is similar to games such as "Geometry Wars", in that the only goal is to survive long enough to achieve a high score.
