The Asylum - Gears of War

 View Trailer

The focus of the map is to create mood and atmosphere through the use of lighting. From stark and custom lightmaps of barred windows against the vacant halls, to the red glow of Locust eyes staring at the player through the blackness, lighting takes the relatively simple spaces within this map and turns them into something much more.

  • Designed, documented, and created a GoW map with approx. 10 minutes of gameplay
  • Created custom materials and shadow maps to produce map-specific lighting
  • Created custom retextures of Stranded models to recast them as asylum inmates
  • Worked extensively in Kismet and Matinee to create engaging, in-engine sequences

    Development Time: 8 Weeks

Download: (Coming Soon) (Requires Gears of War)

This massive Oblivion mod focuses on creating a compelling atmosphere by contrasting a living, breathing city full of fully-scripted NPCs with the fact that these NPCs are all undead skeletons. This unease is enhanced through the use of lighting and story.

  • Worked around engine limitations to create a race of skeletons by disassembling Oblivion skeleton model, and turning it into clothing
  • Wrote 7 custom spells with OblivionScript, each with unique effects
  • Designed, documented, and constructed an underground ruined city, as well as 2 new dungeons
  • Wrote extensive scripts for custom-made placable, posable, and equippable skeletal mannequins
  • Created 2 new armors by reassembling and retexturing stock Oblivion meshes

    Development Time: 12 Weeks

Download: Mirror 1, Mirror 2 (Requries Oblivion) (Requires OBSE)

  • Miscellaneous Projects - UE3

This gallery contains a collection of images from many of the smaller projects completed during my tenure at the Guildhall. These projects were all completed under very tight deadlines - with development times ranging from three weeks to just one weekend.

Each of these levels was constructed within some version of Unreal Editor 3, (either UT3 proper, or Gears of War) and represent what I can do under a strict time constaint.

  • Created a UT3 remake of the classic DM17 map
  • Rapid-prototyped a massive floating city in UT3 as a proof of concept
  • Given a stock whitebox, created two minutes of gameplay within a confined space in Gears of War
  • Development Time: 3 Weeks - 3 Days
