Admission with Advanced Standing for Certificate Graduates
Dear Guildhall Graduates:
The Admission with Advanced Standing program was designed to allow our graduates who have already earned a Certificate in Digital Game Development and who meet all the academic requirements for admission into the degree program to apply for admission with advanced standing into the Master’s degree program. Details are as follows:
- Students may be admitted twice a year to coincide with entering cohorts.
- There is an application process. Students who are interested in pursuing the master’s degree and who meet the requirements for admission into the graduate school will need to go through an admission process.
- There are thesis courses to be taken in three consecutive terms and a thesis project to be completed and defended. Students need to be reasonably sure that they can dedicate the time and energy to complete the work in nine months.
- There is a cost of $5,000. The SMU Board of Trustees approved fees for the three terms of $1,000, $2,000, and $2,000, respectively.
- There is travel involved. Students will need to be prepared to come to The Guildhall at least twice, first for the approval of the project proposal and then for the final defense of the work.
Please note that there is a two-year time limit associated with this program. Since we intentionally tied the time available to complete all degree requirements to the official implementation of the program, we were careful not to launch the program before we were in a position to accommodate returning students. However, returning students must keep in mind (i) the two-year clock starting on July 9, 2007, and (ii) the nine-month timeframe to complete the requirements from the date of registration in the first of the three terms.
If you are interested in beginning the application process, please let us know by contacting Diane Urquhart at diane@smu.edu or (214) 768-4278. In order to ensure appropriate levels of supervision and committee representation, completed applications will be considered on a first-come first-served basis.
